Write for us

Eastern News Compass welcomes pitches that help readers understand eastern places through geography: the land beneath a route, the position of a settlement, a boundary on a map or the story suggested by a place name. We favour one clear question, grounded detail and a useful explanation over a broad survey.

What makes a good pitch

Tell us the subject, the question the piece will answer and why it belongs with Eastern News Compass. A strong proposal has a defined geographical focus, explains its main idea in a few sentences and makes clear what readers will learn. Mention the kind of material or sources you would use, without claiming access you do not have.

A useful approach

We are interested in clear explainers, comparisons, historical context and close readings of maps, routes, landforms or place names. Keep the scope manageable and avoid treating a single example as representative of an entire region. Do not send confidential material or work that depends on unverified claims.
